Meeting Mexico’s Rising Demand for New Sustainable Construction

Meeting Mexico’s Rising Demand for New Sustainable Construction

Mexico’s built environment continues to see high demand for new housing development along with increasing investment in new infrastructure. In that same vein, there’s also increasing investment in the Mexican commercial and industrial sectors – both nationally and due to the ongoing trend of nearshore manufacturing for the American market.

To put the numbers into perspective, the Mexican construction industry as a whole surpassed $277 billion USD in 2023, and closed out 2024 with an estimated 5.5% growth. While growth is slowing compared to the 2022-23 period, the market remains very strong, estimated to top $600 billion by 2030. Sustainable construction is a huge trend too – 2023 saw Mexico ranked 10th in the world on the list of “Top 10 Countries and Regions for LEED” put together by the US Green Building Council.

The demand for cleaner, greener, longer-lasting construction has driven the demand for Hycrete’s chemically-advanced waterproof concrete materials. That’s why we’ve set up a highly successful and streamlined distribution partnership with Hycrete Mexico. By extending our international supply chain, Hycrete has quickly become the first name in concrete waterproofing in Mexico’s built industry and other quickly-growing global markets.

Meeting New Construction Demands in Mexico’s Expanding Economy:

The Mexican Manufacturing Industry and Nearshoring

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA, which replaced NAFTA in 2020) is more crucial than ever. More and more American companies are turning to domestic production or nearshoring. Largely, they’re trying to avoid the supply chain issues and other pitfalls they’ve experienced in offshoring to Asian manufacturers since the pandemic.

As such, there’s been huge outside investment in Mexican factories and the greater industrial sector. Hycrete waterproofing helps these builders meet their sustainability targets, and furthermore adds to their long-term ROI by drastically extending the lifetime of new construction.

The Mexican Housing Industry

Like pretty much all Western markets, Mexico is seeing a huge need for new housing and the residential sector. There’s a huge push for new affordable housing as well as for luxury housing, along with industry-wide housing modernization trends. Hycrete is the ideal match for new and updated housing: it reduces initial building costs, minimizes future maintenance costs, and extends the lifetime of new housing to maximize the ROI of both builders and owners. As one satisfied client said of our Mansion Riviera Nayarit project: “We were able to carry out our vision and accomplish a project that we were told could not be done… Several design and architecture firms in the area have come to witness how exceptional Hycrete’s use has been and how they will incorporate it into their future designs.”

Infrastructure, Municipal Construction, and Public Works

Likewise, Mexico is seeing a huge push for investment in infrastructure and public works. Long used throughout the American infrastructure industry and DOT projects, Hycrete is scientifically proven to extend the life of roadways, bridges, seawalls, etc. Moreover, it minimizes municipal maintenance costs while keeping the whole process more eco-friendly and sustainable – a boon for Mexico’s emerging sustainability initiatives.

Supporting International Sustainability with Better Waterproof Concrete

Hycrete provides the global construction industry a more effective and eco-friendly way to build with better concrete materials. Backed by more than two decades of experience and thousands of successful global projects, Hycrete has become the scientifically-proven gold standard for sustainable concrete waterproofing and corrosion protection.
